In a lot of Western countries it is a common fact that people who start with Iaido, start with this set of 12 forms. It is a mixture of sitting and standing techniques, inspired by, and based upon different Koryu Styles such as Muso Shinden Ryu, Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, Hoki Ryu,Tamiya Ryu, Shinkage Ryu, Mugai Ryu, Suio Ryu etc.. As these 12 forms contain the basic elements for proper swordmanipulation they are often set as a standard, and used for gradings and Taikai in the Zen Nihon Kendo Renmei Organisation for people coming out from all different kind of styles. This has also been the case in this Dojo. After many years of practice in Zen Ken Ren iai, and study in the Muso Shinden Ryu and Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu, the dojoleader finally fixed upon Tamiya Ryu Iaido in the 90's with the help and the support of Machida sensei & Yoda sensei, both pupils of Fukui Sensei (see Tamiya Ryu section). They frequently visited Europe as assistants-teachers of Ishido Sensei during the ZNKR seminars that were held in the UK & the Netherlands.

People often wonder what the real important points are while performing for a grading in Zen ken Ren iaido or while participating in a major Taikai.
Here’s a handfull of important points one should keep in mind (And not only for Zen Ken Ren Iaido !) :
How is your bowing and etiquette ?
How is your mental attitude ? (Calmness, Metsuke, Zanshin)
Do you perform correct Nukitsuke + Kiritsuke ? (Check your Hasuji !)
How is your Sayabiki ?
Do you perform correct Furikabute ?
How is your Chiburi ? How is your Noto ?
Is there Ki Ken Tai Ichi ?
And most important : is your Iai effective as Budo ?
